The preferred bidder for constructing a 68 000-seater multi-purpose stadium at Green Point in Cape Town for the 2010 Soccer World Cup was announced on Monday.
The City of Cape Town named the joint venture of Murray & Roberts and WBHO as the preferred bidder.
"The city will now enter into negotiations with the preferred bidder to actively interrogate their tendered price, their rates and qualifications to achieve a reduced total overall cost," the city said in a statement on Monday.
The two companies' tender price — adjusted for tender qualifications and without VAT and contingencies — is projected at R2.7-billion, the city said.
It said total project cost including allowances for qualifications, escalation, contingencies, professional fees, insurance and temporary works required by FIFA, the world soccer body, amounts to R3.73-billion.
