Car Hire South Africa - Wise Wheels Car Rental

What do you need to hire a vehicle?

1. A Valid driver’s license
2. A credit card
3. Must be 23+

Why the credit card? Can I pay cash?

We must authorise your credit card before the rental begins. The authorization amount is usually the rental + insurance excess. This amount does not come off your card; it simply gets blocked until payment for the rental is taken. At the end of the rental, you may pay cash.

What does the term excess (deductible) mean?

The amount the hirer is liable for in the event of an accident / theft before the insurance company will cover the remaining costs.

What is the difference between standard cover and super cover?

If the hirer chooses the super cover option, he/she will pay a higher daily rate, but the amount of risk in the event of an accident / theft is less. Amounts vary depending on the type of vehicle.

What would be in violation of the terms and conditions of the insurance?

Gross or Criminal negligence: eg: Drunk driving
Unauthorised drivers – i.e. names of additional drivers not listed on the rental agreement
Not reporting damage to the rental company immediately
Not adhering to traffic, road and driving rules and regulations
Driving under the influence of alcohol or any illegal substances
Unsuitable driving or road conditions
Unauthorised cross border rentals

What to do in the event of an accident:

You must contact us at the telephone numbers provided. Get as many details as you can from the other driver, and also contact the local police department so that you can obtain a case number.

What to do in the event of a break-down:

Our cars are kept in the best condition possible, but in the event of a break-down, contact us at the phone number provided - and we will assess the quickest way to help you.

Should the tank be returned full?

Our vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel unless delivered to you. On completion of the rental, you can fill the tank yourself, or we will fill it, and charge it to the card. Please note that fuel cannot be purchased with a credit card in South Africa- cash or garage cards are the only form or payment.

Unless otherwise stated, all our vehicles take unleaded fuel

What is a "car rental day"?

Rentals are charged in 24 hour periods, return of the vehicle later than the time on the booking will result in an extra day being charged. A grace period of 59 minutes is allowed for late returns.

Airport surcharge and tourism levy

We do not charge either of these

Countries that we are allowed drive into?

South Africa only! If you need to go into Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Lesotho or Swaziland, we can organise the rental for you.

Are there any hidden costs?

None. What you see is what you pay.

Green Point stadium plans on track

Plans for the construction of the new Green Point stadium in Cape Town in time for the 2010 World Cup Soccer tournament were on track, the SABC reported on Friday.

Tasneem Essop, the MEC for environmental and development planning in the Western Cape, announced her decision on Friday.

Essop had to re-zone the area in line with the proposed plans for the site.

After much deliberation, Green Point has been re-zoned from a public space to a Community Facilities Use Zone.

"This means that the proposed 68 000-seater stadium, golf course, multipurpose sports facilities and an Urban Park can now be built there. We will be convening council on the 17th of January to take a decision on the consent use," Essop said.

But even if this big project is given the green light by the council, the public has to give its stamp of approval.

The Green Point Common Association has threatened to take legal action if they were not happy with the decision taken by the city and the province.
